Every year the indigenous peoples of Brazil gather for the Free Land Camp in the capital, Brasilia. They set up a huge camp to accommodate several thousand delegates along Brasilia’s Monumental Axis.
The event centres on the ‘Dia do Índio’ – the Day of Indigenous People – and is vital to enable the various ethnic groups, many of which live in remote villages, to build the unity they desperately need to confront the many attacks on their rights.
In 2020, the event was cancelled because of the Coronavirus pandemic, but it is expected to return in 2021.
